WhooHoo!! My most favorite day of the year.
The shortest daylight of the year.
Here in mid-North America, we spend much of today in twilight.
Maybe you weren’t aware there are 3 types of twilight.
Civil Twilight: This is the brightest form. It’s light enough you can see to do outside chores.
Nautical Twilight: This dates back to the time when sailors used the stars to navigate the seas. During this time, bright stars can be easily seen with naked eyes.
Astronomical Twilight: The sky is no longer illuminated by the sun. All stars can be seen.
There were less than 9 hours of daylight today….
But that’s okay…
The Earth is now tilting back the other way. (Sorry Australia).
We’re headed back into the light.
We’ve come through the night.
Perhaps through the long darkness you found comfort by giving, sharing, and supporting each other. Bless you.
Take heart and continue your kindnesses.

I am perfectly happy to have less light, (and hopefully heat). I loathe and detest the sweaty season and you are welcome to it. So I rejoice at this solstice too.
Every solstice, summer or winter, I think of you. I’m glad you’re happy about heading into your winter. In the meantime, send some of your summer this way.
The early darkness always surprises me. I’ll look outside and it’s dark. I think “Oh, 9:00 – time for bed.” But, alas! It’s only 5:30. I *could* go to bed, but I think I’ll curl up with a book, instead.
You and I must be related to chickens because when it gets dark we’re ready to go to bed. Thank heavens for light bulbs.
I look forward to the winter solstice knowing that the days will be getting longer even if it is just by minutes a day!
Daylight saving time here messes us up. A big jump occurs in one. Weekend.
I am looking forward to more light! These dark days and early sunsets do nothing for me.
Ain’t that the truth? It’s been a long dark winter with lots of weather. Here’s to moving on
